Ending date: 24 Jun 2016
Join us for "Arts and Peacebuilding" at the 2016 Canadian School of Peacebuilding with instructor Dessa Quesada-Palm. The body, voice and mind are all sites of contestation for divergent interest. Key to the perpetuation of a culture of violence is the subjugation of critical thinking, open dialogue, and the freedom to own one's creativity. In this course, the group will explore the theory and practice of the arts and peacebuilding in an interactive format. Using drama, creative writing, music, visual and movement, students will examine the role and responsibility of the artist in envisioning, enhance dialogue, healing and transcending conflict.
This course is available for professional development, personal inspiration or academic credit. People who may benefit from this course include NGO staff and interns, activists and peace educators, community leaders, religious leaders, teachers and professors, undergraduate or graduate students, government officials, and anyone interested in peace work.
Recognizing that the costs of training can be a significant barrier to participants, we have kept this year's fees below the 2011 level. For those taking the course for personal or professional development, the fee is $542 per session. For those taking courses for academic credit, tuition is $748 per session. Payment can be made by credit card, cheque (payable to Canadian Mennonite University), wire transfer, or money order. Email csop@cmu.ca for more information. Your application is not complete and your seat in the course is not reserved until we have received full payment.
Books are required for participants taking a course for credit and will cost approximately an additional $100 per course. Course fees include a lunch banquet of great local food and inspiring speakers, on the Thursday of the week of the course.
